Donor's corner

You can donate appreciated assets directly to CIPU

If you have stock, real estate or other assets that have increased in value over the years you can gift them directly to a qualified charity like CIPU, in most cases avoiding capital gains taxes.

Gifting appreciated assets to CIPU also avoids the inconvenience of having to sell them, as well as avoids having to pay tax on the gain.

Donate all or a portion of your annual Required Minimum IRA Distribution to CIPU -- avoid having to pay income tax on it

If you are 70½ or older and have an IRA or inherited IRA, you may contribute up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to a qualified 501(c)(3) charity like CIPU and avoid including the distribution as personal income. In some cases that represents a tax savings of 40% or more of your annual Required Minimum Distribution.

CIPU is a qualified charity. A QCD can be made directly from your IRA by the financial organization of your choice.

The distribution may be counted as your annual required minimum IRA distribution. A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) can be contributed to one or more charities within the annual limit, so you need not be limited to CIPU. A QCD may not be subject to state income, depending on the state.

*You should confirm your particular tax treatment with your tax professional.
